How Bridges Work
A bridge is a three-unit crown restoration that is supported by a pair of healthy teeth, with one on either side of your missing tooth. This fixed restoration fills in the open space while reinforcing the surrounding teeth so that they don’t shift out of alignment.
Our dentists design each of our bridges from highly durable, aesthetic materials that restore normal biting function and the appearance of a complete smile. Most are crafted from zirconia, which is a highly durable ceramic. For teeth toward the front of your smile, we prefer to use eMax bridges, as they offer enhanced aesthetic characteristics.
The Treatment Process
Getting a dental bridge requires two appointments, approximately one to two weeks apart. At your first visit, we’ll prepare the supporting teeth and take impressions for our lab. Our dentists will also specify the colour and hue of the material required so that your bridge matches the adjacent teeth.
Home Care and Maintenance
It’s important to clean around and under your bridge daily to prevent gum infections or decay in the supporting teeth. We recommend using an interdental brush to clean under the bridge at least once or twice a day. Additionally, it’s important to see us for routine exams and cleans to keep the supporting teeth as healthy as possible.
